Bulling Prevention
At SGC we are committed to providing a safe and bully-free environment. Classroom guidance lessons will be presented throughout the year. During the lessons, our students will be introduced to the SGC Stop Bullying Pledge, where they will commit to take a stand against bullying. Tips for parents
If someone comes to you complaining that your child is a bully:
Make an effort not to respond in a defensive manner
Listen carefully to the complaint
Assess the validity of the complaint
Clearly define the bully behavior
Discuss the school's discipline policy with your child
Show your support for the rules, and help your child understand the reasons for them
Establish a climate that absolutely disapproves of bullying
Avoid physical punishment
Involve your child in setting rules for appropriate behavior at home
Help your child understand the consequences of bullying
Help your child find ways to show anger that do not involve verbally or physically hurting others
Help your child understand the value of accepting individual differences
Model empathy
Seek help from your child's school and/or community resources
If you think/know your child is being bullied:
Note any disturbing behaviors in your child
Role play possible situations with your child
Strengthen your child's self esteem and confidence
Provide different settings/activities for your child to learn new skills and make friends
Something for every parent:

Teach social skills
Get to know your child's friends
Be involved in your child's life
Participate in school activities
Provide positive reinforcement
Have realistic expectations
Acknowledge effort and performance
Focus on things that your child does right
Feed your child's self-esteem with positive remarks
